Sew Necessary - how it all began………

I have always enjoyed the creativity of needle crafts since a small child and around 20 years ago, on impulse, bought a small cross-stitch kit - I found working on the kit very therapeutic and was very soon “hooked” and now take a project with me wherever I go - on holiday - visiting my children (I live in the North - they live in the South). I still have my original piece of work displayed at home.

Having used plastic pockets and carrier bags for years, I searched for some form of carrier, hold-all or folder into which to pack my project on these occasions, but could find only plastic items which I found attracted dust due to the static plastic creates. I wanted to keep my project as clean as possible throughout its creation.

Being unable to find anything suitable for my needs, I decided to design my own. I produced several sizes to meet my particular needs, ie small “tote” (I had to call them something!) for short journeys, medium “tote” for use in aeroplanes, trains and coaches and a large “tote”, which I use at home and in our caravan. I went on to design “Sewing Tubes” which meet the needs of a variety of crafters - it’s all about the whole “experience” of crafting - if you use something which is practical and meets your storage needs which is also attractive this adds to your creative pleasure. The rest is history…………..

As I want to be sure each product is well made to my own specifications and standard I decided that I would not use “outworkers” but would make everything myself - this being the best way to control production and make the statement “a quality product - hand made in England”.

Having successfully exhibited and sold many of my “totes” at craft fairs I have extended the range to include items for customers to stitch themselves together with some small x-stitch kits, some designed specifically for children. I now offer a mail order service - you can order from this site or print out an order form and do it the old fashioned way.

Everything I make is not available via the website - check out the “listings” to see if I’m in your area and then come along to the event to see the other products I have to offer

Footnote:
If you finish your project and discover it won’t fit into a standard size frame, get in touch with your size and I may be able to source a bespoke frame for you.  These are supplied without glass for safety reasons within the postal system.  Embroidery is about texture – you lose this if you put your project under glass.
